My name is Joanne Tilsley and I am the Director of Enhance Learning and Behaviour Support Limited. I am a registered teacher. My passion is helping young people to realise their full potential.

"Enhance" offers a range of services to meet the needs of you and/or your child's needs.

My Story

One of my favourite quotes is, "If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn" (Dr.O.Ivar Lovaas) . Enhance will ensure that we know our learners and teach the students in a way that they can experience success and enjoy learning.

Assessments will be fit for purpose to identify the student's strengths  There is never a "one size fits all" and Enhance guarantees individualised support.

The inspiration for my business "Enhance" comes from the students and families that I have had the pleasure to work with over the years. There are many inspirational stories to share, which for many have been an unnecessarily difficult journey. Too often I have seen families having to travel long distances into Central Auckland and wait for long periods of time to access support. I can see the need for tailored support in the South Auckland area and a service that can help with practical advice and strategies. We can also provide support until the additional professional services and agencies can be accessed. Enhance will make the journey a smoother one to success.

Experience

I have been teaching for 25+ years and have worked more recently for 9 years as a Resource Teacher for Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) and as a Practice Leader. I am a registered teacher. I have experience working with all school ages (Year 0-13) and also adult education. In my role as a RTLB, I specialised in working with students with additional needs to support all areas of learning and behaviour. I have supported a wide range of neurodiverse students, including students with and without a diagnosis. I have worked for Ministry of Education as a Special Education Advisor ( Behaviour).

I qualified with a BSc Honours (First Class) and then with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. I have always had an interest in working with students with additional needs and studied Masters of Education papers in Counselling, Disordered Behaviour and Psychology. I have also achieved Distinction in a Postgraduate Diploma for Specialist Teaching in Learning and Behaviour.

I am an accredited facilitator of the Brick by Brick Program.

I am a member of CATE (Careers and Transition Education Association NZ Inc)
